Amelia Earhart was an incredible woman, passionate and determined, born on the 24th July 1897. She was and is famous until today for being an American aviation pioneer, author and women's rights defender.

Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. For this achievement she received the US Distinguished Flying Cross. She set many other records, wrote bestselling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of "The Ninety Nines", an organization for female pilots. In 1935 Amelia Earhart became a faculty member at Purdue University as an advisor to aeronautical engineering and a career counselor to female students. She was also a member of the National Women's Party and an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment.

During an attempt to make a flight around the globe Amelia Earhart disappeared on the 2nd July 1937 over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Amelia Earhart was a fascinating woman and is an inspiration for many girls and women all over the world.
